Hayabusa Valve Adjustment

www.fzrphotography.com A really nice customer of ours had his ’07 GSX1300R “Hayabusa” in for it’s scheduled valve clearance inspection which is usually a couple hour job. 95% of the time, all the valves are in specs. However, on this (his second valve inspect), I found nine valves just outside the maximum clearance. So, this now became a much bigger job.

I would reconsider filming customers vehicles. Not that there’s something wrong with it in my mind, but atleast here in Finland it is strictly forbidden and the customer can prosecute you for that, and your boss may kick you out of the company. I dont know how it is in other countries, but it could be the same as here.

@fzrsmkr I see what your saying, It would be V-hard to have them all the same. Using that system. Thank’s for info. I will remember that when I need to do mine. When in specs, is good to go.lol The specs are a guideline of sorts, Where the motor should work just fine. Blue printing a motor is another story, Where things need to be the same as much as possible, That is for max power & longevity, Or as long as possible under the conditions usually being maxed out, Like racing. Thank’s again, yl

@ylism – As long as they are within specs (min or max) they are fine and will not need inspected until next interval. They change adjustment very slowly (if at all) over time. In most cases, if you adjust up or down while they are within the specs, you’ll push them too far the other way. The shims are sold in 0.05mm (approx .002″) size increments, so take that into account. It’s almost impossible to get them all the same…

You said that you { found nine valves just outside the maximum clearance} What if there at the max. Leave em alone, or adjust them back to min. Seems to me if they was close to being out of specs, They would need to be readjusted anyways. Because a few miles down the road, they will be out way to soon. After just being worked on. When they should only need to be checked again at 14,500 more miles. Or what ever the factory says. What I am asking do you make em all the same ? I think you would.

I’m starting to think that the Ducati desmo system may be a Japanese design as well.

the last part was throttle body balancing right? So just only need to adjust the screws?

Nice video… Im in school right now doing valve adjustments alllll say long. Shim over, under and screw and lock nut. Im getting pretty good at it, but wouldnt want to do it all day everyday! How do you like what you do in the industry? How often do you think you do valve adjustments….and how long does it take total, start to finish?

Thanks for the video. I plan on doing this soon. I have a question. I notice you are using the specs Intake .08- .18 and Exhaust .18-.28. I have a 05, which has this same engine, and the Clymer manual says the specs are Intake .10- .20 Exhaust .20- .30. Using the Clymer Manual all these would be just in spec, however I am sure the fine tuning wouldn’t hurt. Where did you get the specs you are using?

Inspect and/or adjust every 14,500 miles (24,000km) as per Suzuki’s recommendation.
